These refrigerators stand out because of their unique features, including door-to-door dispensers and more expensive Ice makers.

We contacted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect, and the founder of LS Projects - for her tips on how to select the best one. We looked at the storage capacity, layout, and energy efficiency, among other factors.

GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

As its name suggests, GE’s Profile series is targeted at people who want to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into their kitchens. This refrigerator has it all, from a Keurig K cup coffee maker in the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator costs a premium, I expect higher quality.

This fridge is a good choice, despite the small blip. It features a large freezer compartment that is not common for counter-depth french door refrigerator freezer-door refrigerators. It also holds a lot of frozen food compared to other models.

Inside the fridge, there are 17 shelves and compartments. The fridge compartment has 18.5 cubic feet, which is standard for a French-door fridge at this price. It comes with a decent size freezer in the left side. However, it's not the largest one I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in both compartments to make a custom storage solution. The GE PYE22PYNFS's interior design is stylish, too. Its LED lighting is a nice addition, and the in-door storage bins have an additional shelf that folds up beneath itself to allow you to store large items. The drawers have temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to shut and open, but I found the textured plastic coatings to be a bit rough on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes the all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator at this price with Wi-Fi and app support via GE's SmartHQ software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices can let you control your refrigerator from anywhere in the world, and it has many options for customizing. It also alerts you when a door is left open, when the fridge or freezer is in need of defrosting, and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS included Precise fill, an option available in other GE refrigerators that allows you to preset how many cups of water you'd like to disperse simultaneously. The fridge displays a countdown to reveal how much water is left however it's not as useful as Precise Fill.

Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

Created to appear as a seamless element of your kitchen, Bosch's French-door refrigerator is an eye-catching piece. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a veggie compartment that keeps fruits and vegetables fresher for longer, and two compressors to preserve food items. The Ice maker is among the top we've tested and produces pyramid-shaped ice that is low in use of water. This refrigerator is a great option for households with a single member or kitchenettes looking for a sleek design and top-of-the-line food preservation.

This refrigerator was the highest-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators test, for several reasons. Its freezer temperatures held firm at a level that was just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, never fluctuating by more than a fraction one degree. This is crucial to avoiding freezer burn. The fridge's fridge section also performed well, reaching the desired temperature for initial set within an hour and keeping that temperature steady over the course of our testing.

Bosch is a household name for its top-quality appliances. Therefore, it's no surprise that Bosch's counter depth fridge Bosch counter depth refrigerator can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's Home Connect. This app lets you monitor and control your fridge remotely from your smartphone or tablet. The refrigerator is costly however, it offers excellent features and functionality at a fair price.

It is crucial to be aware of the limitations of your fridge. It is possible to be inventive with tall items since the fridge is limited in shelf space. LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. Inside, the fridge has a standard french door bottom freezer refrigerator without water dispenser-door layout with gallon-sized door bins on each door as well as two rows of shelves for spill-capture, and a set of crisper drawers. The upper right shelf can be folded down to give taller items more headroom. You'll also find a full-width drawer for deli items and an internal water dispenser.

One of the nice aspects of this refrigerator is that its ice maker is inside the freezer, which makes it easy to transfer ice into the fridge for use when required. The freezer is designed with thoughtful elements, for instance, sliding drawers to help you to organize the place of your items. It also has a large container for storing frozen food and a separate container for ice.

Another great feature of this refrigerator is its Smart InstaView panel. You can control the temperature, lighting and other aspects of your fridge using your smartphone. It's an easy way to keep track of your refrigerator and control it, especially when away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat, but it doesn't necessarily enhance the efficiency of the fridge. This fridge took longer to chill food and defrost it than some others we test. This is probably due to its bigger capacity.

The other issue we have with the doors of this refrigerator. They have handles that are sunken on the front, which allow smaller people to pull them open from the bottom, however they're still difficult for taller people to pull closed without slamming them. It would have been much better if they came with a front-mounted handle.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is a great choice for those looking to combine the aesthetics of a French-door refrigerator with more efficient design. Its capacity is superior for a counter-depth model and it cools evenly and has a great layout. It's also less expensive than the most expensive counter depth refrigerators that have an icemaker, which makes it an attractive option.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for an French door refrigerator that won't break the bank this Frigidaire is a good choice. It's a basic design that isn't as striking in appearance as other models however it comes with enough features that make it a great option. Its most notable feature is the adjustable temperature drawer which helps keep food items like veggies and meat fresher for longer. It also comes with a huge water dispenser as well as a good ice maker that operates quickly.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. This drawer lets you divert a portion of the refrigerator's cooling power directly into this area, so you can put away food items that require extra attention. This feature can be adjusted by using a slider on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this to set a general cooling setting for the entire fridge but I've noticed that adjusting the generic settings tends to produce better results than specific ones.

During my tests, the refrigerator's temperatures were fairly constant across the different areas of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the top and bottom of the fridge didn't vary significantly from 38 degrees, and the middle of the fridge was within a degree of 36. This is a great performance, but it does not quite make it to the top of our rankings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. This fridge can be connected with a smart thermostat to obtain more precise readings of the internal temperature of your fridge.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of grey-bodied stainless with a "smudge resistant" finish. It wards off streaks and fingerprints better than other stainless steel finishes I've tried.
