    World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade you choose, it may increase the rarity of an item or mark Level and increase other stats.

The process of upgrading gear in The War Within requires a certain number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a certain amount.

    Item Level

The value of an item upgrader mod's stats base increases when it is upgraded. This value is the total of all its leveled up perks (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly, depending on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to make. This is because of how many perks must be replaced to allow the item to get upgraded.

Item level is a widely used measurement of power and is visible on all tooltips for items. It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.

When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can look at the item level. It's an indicator of the item's damage and quality. Comparing items in a vendor's stock is possible using the item's level.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about how the item level is determined. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated by formulas that determine the value of an item's stats actually are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values and gems in sockets increase the overall value of the item. This can lead to an item's ilvl calculated, which is usually very close to Blizzard's real Best item upgrade level.

However, this is not the only factor that can affect an item's ilvl since the level of the area the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, for example by adding a level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.

    Item Stats

Item stats can make or break an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat mods of weapons boost base stats. These stat mods are then boosted by a player's skill.

The upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. A grey or white item for instance, can only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player and are available in all shapes and sizes. The affixes could do things like give the item additional damage, or give a specific ability to the item (such as reviving dead or decreasing the duration of cooldowns) or make the item unique by putting a special name to the item.

At present, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges as with other rerolling methods.

Players can upgrade an item with specific stats or reroll attaches. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However every item will include at least one stat in the range, unless they are a unique item, or the item is a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to increase. However, as with the base equipment, this would have to be done on a per-item level, and the interface for item comparison would not display all the possible stats that were gained or lost at the same time.

    Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items, the properties that are spawned by loot and the intensity of these properties. It doesn't, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives the player an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is especially advantageous in early game runs because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also boost the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each item upgrader mod level and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons come with a default Luck value of 40. These items can be augmented with golden ingots, or spined leather (depending on the material they are made of) to add another 40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.

Furthermore, certain items, like the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be outfitted to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items are available in the shops or made by using the appropriate ingredients.

    Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade item or to stop players from losing their items if it does not work.

When you upgrade an item the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading the item and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The chance of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The performance of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by 5percent.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory therefore enchantment glints and other effects could be obstructed by the overlays. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
